Housekeeping and an opportunity to boss us around.

by Corey A. 21. December 2009 22:10

We're approaching the end of 2009, and what an amazing, eventful, inspiring year it's been.  We've dropped a few not-so-subtle hints here and there, and in the New Year we'll be delving a bit more on the blog into the personal components that drove us towards fitness as sustenance.  This is going to be a journey in many ways, and we're really hoping you're in for the long ride.

First: Thanks to everyone that reads and contributes on this blog. This has become a great source of motivation and fun for Kristin and me.

Second: I'd like to give an update on a post we did last month, profiling a friend of mine "Stefan Kuhn". He placed first in his qualifying race and will be racing at the Olympics here in Vancouver this February. This has been a long time dream of Stefan's and I am so proud and excited for him.

Third: As many of you are aware, the blog is one component of a much larger application, devoted to helping you aspire to your fitness goals. As with every software project that I have worked on... we are behind schedule. (Edit by Kristin: this is because he does amazing work and genius takes time!)  What I can say is that we will soon be ready to start running some of our beta testers through the initial components in the next couple months.  The new planned launch date is July of 2010. If you would like to be on our beta test team, their is still room to sign up here.

Lastly: I would like to get your input on how you would like to see the final site take shape. What things motivate you? Where do your fitness interests lie?

Just a quick note, before you get too many responses to your survey.  The last question, how important are those things, you don't indicate if 1 is most important or if 5 is.

Good luck with the development, looking forward to seeing the site grow!

Sorry (I can't help myself) but I'm all nit-picky about spelling. It's a sickness.
I farmed this entry and here's a list of possible corrections, take 'em or leave 'em:

"there" not their (in the sentence: their is still room to sign up here)
"et cetera" is etc, not ect
Excersises should be spelled "exercises" (it's misspelled once and spelled correctly elsewhere)
"comparisons" not comperisons
"management" not managment
"compete" not Compeate
"android" not Andriod

Jennifer, it's my fault.  Corey is a talented software engineer and a maker of wicked sandwiches and a talented athlete and sweet as all hell but spelling is not his forte.  I was to go in last night and proofread and it was late and I missed a bunch of stuff so -- I'm fixing now!

I am personally starting to exercise from scratch after a lot of time off to recover from shoulder surgery.  I *was* in decent shape and I've lost a lot of weight (pretty much all muscle mass, I'm sure) and I'd love to hear about how you get BACK to it after being off the proverbial horse for so long.   I'll be rehabbing my shoulder and getting back in shape overall and that process seems just overwhelming.  I WILL do it b/c I can't stand how my body is aging, but some support/ideas from that standpoint would be great.

Also, I learned in this comment that typing the word exercise correctly the first time is not easy Wink.  And I am a huge stickler for spelling and grammar, too!

Hi Sharon.  Thanks for the comment.  I had to do something similar to you, in regards to getting back in shape... Some time soon here I will write a post with the details of what happened.  In the mean time... here is what I can offer you.  I started SLOW... but I made it consistent.  I started walking to and from work (about 5km each way).  Most days at work I would try to hit the gym for 30 min during my lunch.  I realize that this might not be possible for all people given their work situation.  I think whatever you do... make it consistent.  When that becomes easy for you ... step it up a notch.  Make sure you have great music and you will find that you start to love the time alone to clear your head.  Additionally I think it is important to think about what you want to accomplish.. if this is a time/speed/strength goal or a way you want your body to look.  Start thinking about this goal before you goto bed... and keep it in your mind while you are working on it.  I am really into visualizing things.  Hope there is something you can take away from this... again thanks for the comment ;)

I'm interested in nutritional topics.  For example, I'd love to hear from Kristin how the transition went from being a vegetarian to eating some meat, any recipes you both recommend, etc.

We are no longer in 2009. Same as, we are now closer than before. We have to be true in all we do. We must be responsible for every responsibility that is given unto us.
